Busby Parish Church Choir

Both Busby Churches had choirs prior to the union of the two churches. When the two churches joined together the choirs merged to become Busby Parish Church Choir.

At present there is a weekly choir rehearsal from September to end of April, and an anthem and introit at every service during those months. During the Summer ‘recess’ the church service begins with an introit from the choir. Recently the Choir has contributed to the prayers, and have frequently given a sung Blessing at the close of the service.

In addition to this support during worship, our current Choir Director Keith Hamilton has encouraged and trained the choir in the performance of a Carol concert every year, on the Sunday before Christmas, and a Summer concert in May every alternate year. We have followed these with the fellowship of an outing or meal, to the great enjoyment of all.

Our previous Minister, Rev Iain Campbell was one of the Chaplains at Barlinnie Prison in Glasgow during the early 1990’s, and as such conducted an early Sunday service in the prison, according to a rota system, usually for a month at a time. He asked for support from our choir, and many members were happy to go to the Prison as well to lend support. Bacon rolls followed, and all enjoyed it.

The Busby Church Choir has entered the Glasgow Music Festival in the past, in the Church Choir class. We won the trophy on our first attempt in 2003, and were runners up the following year 2004 as well as performing to a high standard in 2005.

The choir and the congregation were all greatly indebted to the guidance, commitment and support given to them by Keith Hamilton. They felt that he had been the inspiration for their success. However his musical commitments elsewhere meant that he resigned as Choir Director in the Spring of 2010.
